Duties and responsibilities:

i. Drafting guidance, policies, and mid- to long-term plans for language;

ii. Developing and enforcing language standards; supervising and inspecting language use;

iii. Overseeing implementation of the Chinese Phonetic System;

iv. Advising on and promoting the use of Mandarin Chinese and training Mandarin teachers;

v. Undertaking specific work of the State Language Affairs Commission.
