The Meeting of Education Ministers of the Group of 77 and China was held in a hybrid format — both online and offline — in Havana, Cuba on February 2. Chinese Minister of Education Huai Jinpeng delivered a speech via video at the meeting.
After offering his congratulations to Cuba on assuming for the first time the chairmanship of the Group of 77 and China, Huai mentioned that the world is undergoing unprecedented change. Based on Chinese President Xi Jinping’s vision that “education, technology and talent are the fundamental and strategic support for socialist modernization,” the Ministry of Education of China has steadily pursued a people-centered approach to educational development in order to accelerate improvement of educational quality and promote innovation-driven educational reform.
Huai stressed that the Group of 77 and China is one of the most important multilateral cooperation platforms for developing countries. China will continue to firmly support and work with G77 member states, providing an excellent example of South-South cooperation and achieving mutual growth through the development of education.
The meeting was themed “Science, Technology and Innovation Promote Quality Education: Educational Challenges to Developing Countries in the Post-pandemic Era”. It offered an opportunity for dialogue and knowledge sharing with the goal of building consensus among educational institutions, facilitating engagement and exchange between teachers, management and students from different countries, and driving quality improvement in education. Participants jointly issued a G77+China Education Ministerial Meeting Declaration at the close of the meeting.
